    Off-Grid Escapes Wales

Handcrafted cabins on an 80-acre rewilding project in Monmouthshire

Escape the noise of modern life and wake up to one of the finest views in South Wales. Our off-grid tiny homes sit within an 80-acre rewilding project where nature is healing and wildlife is returning.

    Your Welsh Escape Awaits

The Grange Project offers something increasingly rare: genuine disconnection. No mains electricity humming in the background. No wifi demanding your attention. Just the sounds of birdsong, wind in the trees, and the occasional call of an owl.

Our two handcrafted cabins are tucked into secluded corners of the project, each with its own character and views. From your deck, watch the sun set over the Welsh hills, then step outside for some of the darkest skies in southern Britain.

This is not luxury in the conventional sense. It is something better: space to breathe, time to think, and an invitation to reconnect with the natural world.

    The Cabins

Built by local craftsman Simon Whitfield using reclaimed and locally sourced materials, each cabin is a work of careful craftsmanship. The design balances rustic charm with genuine comfort.

    What's Inside Your Cabin

    • King-sized bed: Sleep in beautifully soft linen sheets on a comfortable ottoman bed
    • Log burner: A bespoke wood-burning stove keeps you cosy on cool evenings
    • Copper wash basin: Hand-crafted details throughout
    • Solar lighting: Enough power for lights and phone charging
    • Compact kitchen: Gas stove, cool box, and everything you need to cook
    • Compost loo: Private, adjacent to the cabin via cedar decking

    At the Grange Hub

A 10-minute walk from the cabins, the Grange Hub provides additional comforts:

    • Hot rainfall showers
    • Full kitchen with fridge and freezer access
    • Comfortable lounge with books and games
    • Free wifi connection
    • Honesty bar with local drinks

    Immersed in Rewilding

Your stay is not just a holiday; it is participation in nature recovery. The 80 acres surrounding your cabin are being transformed from intensive farmland into a mosaic of wild habitats.

Free-roaming pigs root through woodland edges, creating habitat for wildflowers and insects. Native cattle graze the meadows, maintaining open grassland for ground-nesting birds. Hedgerows are regenerating, ponds are being dug, and native trees are returning.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What does off-grid mean?

Our cabins are not connected to mains electricity, water, or sewage. Solar panels provide lighting and phone charging, a log burner provides heat, and a compost loo handles waste. Hot showers and additional facilities are available at the nearby Grange Hub. It is a genuine off-grid experience with thoughtful comforts.

    Where exactly are you located?

The Grange Project is in Monmouthshire, Wales, approximately 15 minutes from Monmouth and 20 minutes from Abergavenny. We are 1.5 miles up a single-track lane from the B road. Full directions are provided upon booking. The nearest train station is Abergavenny (20 mins drive).

What is the best time of year to visit?

Our season runs April to October. Spring brings wildflowers and dawn chorus, summer offers warm evenings on the deck, and autumn provides stunning colours and fungi forays. Each season has its character. We particularly recommend May for bluebells and September for quieter stays.

    Is it suitable for non-campers?

Absolutely. Our cabins are proper tiny homes with king-sized beds, soft linen sheets, and log burners for warmth. You have a roof over your head, a comfortable bed, and cooking facilities. The off-grid aspect adds adventure without sacrificing comfort. Perfect for those who want nature immersion without sleeping on the ground.

What is there to do nearby?

The Wye Valley, Forest of Dean, Black Mountains, and Brecon Beacons are all within 30 minutes. Activities include hiking, mountain biking, wild swimming, kayaking, and climbing. Market towns Monmouth and Abergavenny offer excellent food, bookshops, and local culture. We provide detailed guides with our recommendations.

    Can I bring my dog?

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate dogs due to our free-roaming pigs and cattle. This is for the safety of both your pet and our livestock. We know this is disappointing for dog owners and appreciate your understanding.
