Monmouthshire is the quiet corner of Wales where the Wye Valley, Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) and the English border meet. Our two off-grid cabins sit in the middle of it, on an 80-acre rewilding project where you can hear yourself think.
Why Monmouthshire?
Monmouthshire is the most easterly county of Wales and one of the most overlooked. It is hill country, with patchwork hedgerows, ancient woodland, twisting lanes and small market towns like Monmouth, Abergavenny and Usk. The Wye Valley AONB runs through it, and the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park starts a short drive west.
It is also remarkably easy to reach. Abergavenny station is on the main Cardiff to Manchester line, and the M4 is 25 minutes away, which means a genuine off-grid weekend is possible without a long journey.
Truly Off-Grid, Genuinely Comfortable
Off-grid is one of those phrases that gets stretched a long way. For us it means no mains electricity, no mains water, no mains sewage. Solar runs the lights and a phone charging point. A bespoke log burner heats the cabin. A gas stove cooks your meals. A composting loo deals with the rest. There is no wifi in the cabin and no laptop charging by design.
If you need to top up modern life, the Grange Hub is a few minutes walk away with hot showers, kitchen, wifi and an honesty bar. That balance, real off-grid in the cabin with practical comforts close by, is what most guests tell us they value most.

Each cabin is a one-off, built by local craftsman Simon Whitfield using reclaimed and locally sourced materials. They are small but generous: king bed with soft linen, log burner, copper basin, compact gas kitchen, and a deck looking out over the valley.

Getting to the Cabins
We are 15 minutes from Monmouth, 20 minutes from Abergavenny, and about an hour from Bristol or Cardiff. By train, Abergavenny is direct from Cardiff, Bristol, Newport, Hereford and Manchester. We can arrange a local taxi from the station.
The final approach is a single-track lane and a short walk from parking to the cabin (around 10 minutes with our luggage trolley). It is part of the off-grid feel. Please bring sturdy footwear and outdoor clothing.

Abergavenny is on the Cardiff to Manchester line, with direct services from Bristol, Newport, Cardiff, Hereford and Manchester. A taxi or pickup brings you the remaining 20 minutes. Many guests arrive car-free and explore on foot or by bike during their stay.

What is the cabin season?
April to October. Spring brings bluebells and dawn chorus, summer offers long evenings on the deck, and autumn has fungi, colour and the rut. We close in winter for habitat rest and cabin maintenance.
Are the cabins suitable for couples or families?
Each cabin sleeps two on a king bed, so they are designed for couples or solo guests. Families with older children can book both cabins for exclusive use of the site. We cannot accommodate dogs as we have free-roaming pigs and cattle.
